Anthony bourdain || inspired us to eat here in prague

I love watching Anthony Bourdain, we record it, we watch it, we re-watch it! And sometimes we even get to visit the locations Tony mentions on his show. One of those occasions took place this summer in Praha [Prague]. The experience we selected, that Mr. Bourdain laid out in front of our eyes looked so delectable [if only we can taste and smell TV] ….. and so truly unique …. that WE thought we would give it a go! We bypassed the sausage stand options … and we took on the upscale experience… heading to La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise. The scene setter: we arrived into Praha with my parents to meet up with a good friend [and a frequent travel companion] JP along with his adorable parents M&I …. with 7 of us heading for dinner on a Friday night ….. I had thought ahead [phew] and had called to book a table months in advance…. Upon settling into our seats and getting the first cocktail the theatrics began.

... Arriving at our dining destination ....

..the group with no idea of the culinary adventure we are about to have ….

... the menu .....

.. amuse bouche .. one of three …

... amuse bouche .. two of three …

.. amuse bouche .. three of three … now you are just showing off.. but I will eat it : )

....my fave: Guinea fowl egg, ham aspic, dried apples, mayo...

...Soupe you say??? where’s the …..

…. oh there is it! Wild poultry soup, egg yolk, house made noodles, duck dumpling...

..some had: beef lights, truffle bechamel, pasta for their ‘pouche’...

..others had: nut butter poached trebon catfish, rhubarb essence, radish, almonds, cauliflower, carrot

..umm forgot this one ???

…freshly smoked beef tongue, yellow pea puree, pickled shallot,,,

..duck breast, red cabbage essence, barley dumpling….

..amuse-bouche from the garden: Tomato & basil -what an explosion of flavor...

..melted cheese course … this was insanely good…

…just what we needed: an amuse-bouche sucre...

Dessert: semolina pudding, vanilia tahiti, strawberries ….

.just one wafer thin’… seriously ready to explode but we can’t help ourselves!

This was some serious dining. We had a choice of two menu options: ‘Degustation du Chef’ … OR [the reason for wanting to try this place out] the ‘Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise’. Our choice entailed a FEAST [of MASSIVE bourgeoise proportions I might add]….. one that was inspired from the Czech culinary arts of the 19th century produced with locally sourced seasonal ingredients… truly outstanding. It was theatre… it was fun.. it was served without pretension .. it was outright LIP-SMACKING-GOOD…. every dish presented was greeted with ooohs & ahhhs… AND every single bite was expressed with eyes rolling into the back of our heads and with disbelief that what we were experiencing could possibly taste that damn good……..  We also selected the pairing that complimented the menu beautifully, giving us an amazing wine tour of small european producers… I took to the Chateau Bon Pasteur 2003|Pomerol [those french know how to turn it out]. In summary: this one comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. When in Praha do as Tony did [and us too – but make an advance reservation so as not to be disappointed]!
