Mercadito || tasty mexican chic

Mercadito is best described as “…… I went to a club and a restaurant happened…”. Holy this place is LLLLLOUD. Filled to the rafters with P.Y.Ts [for those that might be “generational” challenged that would be ‘Pretty-Young-Things’], well at least they thought so. Honestly, despite not being able to hear my dinner date, the food here is not an after thought, it surprisingly was good, the volume however was an assault on the senses, so I think if I went back it would be at lunch, in the hope that the volume was more appeasing. It has a list of the usual suspects to be found on a Mexican menu, but the flavors are presented with a twist and there are multiple options in each category: 4-5 guacamole; 3 ceviche; 6 Salsa; 10 or so Taco varieties etc… and that is even before you get to the drinks list that goes on and on and on. All this is offered up in room that provides you with a modern twist on Mexican Chic: rope room dividers; colorful murals; and woven twig oversized light fixtures throwing great patterns on the ceiling.

WHERE: 108 W Kinzie St, Chicago IL 60610
WHAT: Ceviche – mahi mahi, avocado, tomato, orange-chile de árbol broth, that is sweet and pairs wonderfully with the spicy kick from the Mango Guacamole with  jícama, chipotle & pico de gallo. I really liked the Carne Tacos – rosemary marinated skirt steak, potato-rajas-cactus fundido, & avocado. I thought the Taco Al Pastor were a little too spicy but the meat was perfection.
WHEN: This is a BRUNCH, LUNCH, DINNER & BAR spot. Open 7 days a week from 11.30AM until 3.00PM and then open again at 5.00PM until late – call to double check (312) 329-9555
HOW: Dine-In || Walk-In || Reservations || Delivery thru Dining-In
