Sprout || happy 1st birthday

We were fortunate enough to be able to join in the 1 year anniversary celebrations with the team at Sprout for a WONDERFUL dining experience. We have been here on numerous occasions now and the menu is always filled with surprises, with the November 13th dinner as no exception. Chef Dale Levitski and Sous Chef Sara Nguyen might not have won TOP Chef, but they are a winning force in my books. In the kitchen the two create a menu with flavor stacked on flavor in every dish from start to finish and everything in-between. This restaurant is best described as: sophisticated without being pretentious; it provides adventurous food without being unrecognizable; the servers are knowledgeable and truly enjoy their jobs; and the room is intimate but with personality making you feel at home. I really like this place and have no hesitation taking anyone here, it truly has a wide appeal and value for money pricing.

The menu R&H captured was a special event, however, the food is always at this high of a standard. Chef Dale Levitski is contemplating adding a few of these dishes to the winter menu.

{FOIE: butternut-ligonberry-honey crisp} {WINE: nv barth sparkling pinot noir}

{FIG: asian pear-frisee-blue-lardon} {WINE: 08 chateau de mattes-sabran}

{CRAB: truffle-corn-sage-shitake} {WINE: 08 esporao reserva}

{MUSHROOM: marcona-granny smith-ricotta-nebrodini bianco} {WINE: 08 palacios mencia}

{PEAR: root beer-goat chesese-date} {BEER: stone sublimely self righteous ale}

WHERE: 2417 West Fullerton Ave, Chicago IL 60614
WHAT: The $60.00 Prix Fixe Menu is what you should select when dining here, it offers choices in every course, if you are SUPER hungry add an appetizer, however Chef always adds in extra dishes, usually the biggest eater is satisfied. The wine pairing is also a good deal, and there are again plenty of choices by the glass or bottle. Hits of the night that I hope to see on the menu: the FIG – caramelized – brilliant idea, and then add in the flaky filo with the creamy blue cheese inside – the dish was so well put together; the CRAB – the dumpling was so fluffy with a light crispy finish, combined with the sweet crab and the corn, grab some sage – perfect bite; and the MUSHROOMS combined with apple was another pleasant flavor combination that really worked; the PHEASANT – mmmm – crispy skin seasoned so deliciously and the tender and succulent meat was well-balanced with the root vegetable puree and the added texture from the pistachios – another sensation. Well done!
