Today we start the long trek home from the safari camp of Kruger National Park, via Johannesburg with enough time to get in a bike tour of Soweto. Here in this township we will explore the migrant workers hostels and be introduced to conditions of male mine workers and meet the families that live here today. We will also cycle through vibrant Meadowlands, and continue to the Hector Pieterson Memorial, historical landmark of the 1976 student uprising, by-pass the former home of Nelson Mandel and finish up with a drink or two in a ‘shebeen‘. This area is going through revitalization with the assistance of groups like the Soweto Forum working to ensure a progressive realization of economic, social and cultural rights.
